I learned the art of portable speakers from a lover. It meant that we carried the party with us. It meant that we invited the world to dance, to smoke, to tell secrets. It meant that we would never be alone.

I learned the art of flowers from a painter. It meant that we could demand inspiration. It meant that we could pull ourselves from the ordinary by the string of our own imagination and begin again. It meant that we would never go hungry again.

I learned the art of colours from my mother. It meant that we were alive.
